「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Up-Stem Voice 1」;
「Edit」→「Paste Special」→「Duplicate to Staff Below」;
「Edit」→「Voices」→「Change Voice」→「Down-Stem Voice 1」。

「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Down-Stem Voice 1」。

「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Up-Stem Voice 1」;
「Edit」→「Paste Special」→「Duplicate to Staff Below」。

A semi-auto approach to deal with "fake" condensed staves imported from Finale / Sibelius to Dorico.
written by Shiki Suen on July 4th, 2020 (JST).

This method is only made for these two occasions:
1. Each staff has no more than 2 voices.
2. Contents defined by tutti marks (like "a2") are written into a single voice which is the first voice of the current staff.
If the above two occasional conditions are not met, then this method may require improvements.

First, we are not gonna use the old staff. Create two new staves of the same instrument right beneath it:

Then, we go back to the writing mode and select the contents from the old staff:

1593836441997.png

Do not do anything unnecessary at this moment.
Do the following menu commands sequentially:
  • 「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Up-Stem Voice 1」
  • 「Edit」→「Paste Special」→「Duplicate to Staff Below」
  • 「Edit」→「Voices」→「Change Voice」→「Down-Stem Voice 1」
If the last command has no 「Down-Stem Voice 1」 available, then use 「New Down-Stem Voice」 instead.

Then, we select the same contents again from the old staff:

1593837027309.png

Do not do anything unnecessary at this moment. Do:
  • 「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Down-Stem Voice 1」

Now, make sure the Chord Input mode (Q) is disabled.
Directly Copy-Paste the filtered "Down-Stem Voice 1" contents to the 1st new staff we have dealt with above:

Now, again, we select the same contents from the old staff:

1593837336374.png

Do not do anything unnecessary at this moment.
Do the following menu commands sequentially:
  • 「Edit」→「Filter」→「Voices」→「Up-Stem Voice 1」
  • 「Edit」→「Paste Special」→「Duplicate to Staff Below」
You will get a new fake condensed score (in the first new staff) which is played by 2 voices thoroughly, no breaks:

Wanna to put the lost dynamics and articulations back? It is still not the time yet.

Select the new content from the first new staff, cut it (CMD+X or Ctrl+X).
Use your keyboard to enter the input mode (by pressing "Enter" key);
Locate vertically to the first new staff, and then locate horizontally to the beginning of the section we are dealing with;
After that, press "Shift + Down-Arrow" hotkey once to select both of the two new staves:

Directly press the hotkey "CMD+Alt+Shift+V" or "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V" to explode your clipboard content to new staves:
To Japanese & Japanese keyboard users:
Please double check whether the hotkey of paste-exclude is defined differently by default.
1593837723275.png

Actually, what you have done above right now is the following menu command:
  • 「Edit」→「Paste Special」→「Explode」
This command requires selecting multiple consecutive staves of where you want to paste,
and then explode your clipboard contents at the horizontal beginning of your selection.

Remove the fake tutti marks (a2) because they will be automatically generated and managed by Dorico.
Now, it is the time to put the lost dynamics & articulations back:

Finally, run:
  • 「Edit」→「Condensing」

All problems this article is written to deal with should be solved for now, and the rest questions are only related to how you use Dorico well. Good fortune.
